If you're ready to embark on the experience of a lifetime, consider a camping trip to Glacier National Park. Camping anywhere is a great way to enjoy bonding time as a family and learn more about nature and all it has to offer. But camping in the 1.4 million hectares of desert in the incredible Glacier National Park is much more, perhaps something along the lines of a great adventure!
This fantastic park in the rugged Rocky Mountains of Montana has 13 main camps and a variety of off-track sites for more experienced backpackers. It was once the home of the Blackfoot and Kootenai Indian tribes and many sites in the park are still sacred part of their culture. There are over 50 glaciers, 200 lakes and streams, a wonderful variety of wildlife and over 730 miles of trails for hikers and backpackers. One can only imagine the incredible experience that awaits you there.
Here are some tips to hopefully help make your vacation there very safe and memorable.
1. First, be sure to obtain permits and other required care soon. Some camping areas may be reserved and others are first come first served. Some campsites require permits and fees, while others are free. It is also important camping areas only designated campsite. 2. Never feed or approach ANIMALS WILD UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.
3. There are several types of bears, mountain lions and common in Glacier National Park. For the safety of your pet and your fellow campers, keep on a leash no longer than 6 feet, or in a cage or vehicle in all times. If necessary, the kennel space available near the park. As is common in any park must collect all pet waste and deposit in a garbage can.
6. Make sure your camp tents provided only pads or areas designated as camping areas and not where prohibited camping. While there are group campsites available, most are limited to eight people and two vehicles per site. Drinking water and toilets are available at most camp, but no useful contacts are provided. Be prepared in the areas of emergency equipment, footwear, equipment, tent, cooking utensils, mosquito repellent, non-refrigerated food, etc. Learn what to expect as much detail as possible, not to be unpleasantly surprised.
