MD Backcountry Camping?

Seeking a location, within an hour’s drive of Baltimore, that would permit backcountry camping. Not an established campground or a major backpacking trip. More of a just park the car, hike in no more than say half a mile at best, and set up camp. Could even be camped within sight of the car. Someplace quiet, semi secluded, wooded of course. Have to be state land to permit this type of camping.

I don’t know how far it is from Balitimore but parts of the Appalacian Trail go through md. It goes through Harpers Ferry and the Potomac River and around rte 30 in Pa. There are many camping areas on the trail, you could even decide to backpack it.
