Located in the crevices, nooks and crannies on the southeastern edge of the Great Smokey National Park, the tail of the dragon waiting for any driver who dares to attempt to tame it. The six miles "as the crow flies" stretch of road has long been a favorite of motorcyclists and enthusiasts of sports cars from around the world. Not uncommon cyclists from across Europe who have brought the bikes to ride the dragon for weeks at a time.
Along the path forged with zigzag and cures for type chicane views of the Appalachian Mountains are breathtaking and inviting to stop and take a look. Another favorite site on the road is Cheoah Dam, the site of filming the famous scene dam in the stage version of 1993 The Fugitive.
Deal Gap Resort is the gathering place for all travelers in the dragon's tail. The resort offers all kinds of objects such as pins, t-shirts, and more. The complex also has a hotel and campsites. There are fewer than thirty rooms available, so it is advisable to plan your trip well in advance if you want to stay at the resort. Other options include areas to get a room at the Gatlinburg or Cherokee. This option actually makes for a very scenic ride on the dragon's tail, as the routes traverse the hills and hugging the banks the beautiful lakes and rivers on the road.
The only drawback to ride the dragon's tail is traffic. Through the week is the best time to treat of dominating, as traffic is much less dense than the weekend.
If you are a motorcyclist, most likely you have heard of the dragon's tail, and if they have never made the trip, we highly recommend that you do. Beware: the dragon can bite, and will, if they are unprepared or alert.
