Is Kern River ONLY for rafting?

have a trip planned to the Kern River in June (staying at Fairview campground) i’ve never been there before and keep pulling up rafting sites when i search for kern river.. is it JUST for rafting?? are there calm spots that are safe for kids or where we would be able to just sit with out getting carried away or run over by a rafter??
if not, how’s lake isabella?? is the water all murky?? i usually dont like lakes!

No it’s not just for rafting, you can use “soft” kayaks or other non-motorized, soft boats. I kayaked it last April and it was awsome, just wished we had a bit more water. I’ll be going again very soon with my boyscout troop. Ya I’m not much of a lake person…Isabella is ok I guess…

Ya there are alot of calm spots that you can find along the river. I’ve never stayed at Fairview, but I’m sure they have some calm banks nearby.
