New York state camping recomendations?

Hi,alright so this fall probably in late september or early october my family wants to go camping somewhere in the state of new york and i was looking for some recomendations.

We live in the central new york area and since we were planning on going on a long weekend the maximum amount of hours we are willing to drive is 4 hours. We were thinking of going to watkins glen state park, but are not sure if it would be good for fall camping.

My family has camped many times before in the mountains of colorado and montana,so we are looking more for a state park campground with a little bit more hiking rather than a KOA or a jellystone campground. We were considering the adirondacks near cranberry or blue mountain lake, but it may be to long of a drive for a weekend trip.

If you have some recomendations on campgrounds that you liked, please answer below!:)

oh and the campground must have sites for a medium sized trailer!
thank you in advance:D

too many to list, ny has many many good parks and camping is allowed in state forests as well. one close to you is sugar hill [ real name is something like 5 nations state forest] its between seneca and cayuga lakes. camping is free, no hookups but lots of room, and there’s miles of trails. used by horsemen and others. letchworth st park near mount morris ny is next to the largest canyon in the east with large waterfalls and nice sites. also miles of trails. dansville ny has stony brook st park. a smaller park it is in a shady gully with a fair sized creek, waterfalls, and a few hiking trails. also nice sites , limited hookups. to the north try welsey island st park. located on welsey island in the thousand islands it offers many sites [ all either on, in sight of , or near the river. the nature center has several miles of trails that also run near water with some wonderful views.
