Three Creeks Campground

Campgrounds (stream/lake) in Socal?

I’m trying to go camping and I’ve been researching on the web, but I don’t know which campground is better, because there are so many. Would someone please recommend me one?

I’m going with two or three of my friends, so probably 3~4 people in total. We also like fishing, so it has to have a lake nearby, but since we’re sorta tired of lakes, we’d love to go to creeks too.

Driving time doesn’t really matter, but preferably no more than 4 hours from Los Angeles area.

Thanks!
Oh and for creeks/rivers, it’d be nice if camping grounds are close to them! and it’d be even nicer if there is a waterfall
and I don’t mean like a huge waterfall. and no yosemite.

Three streams in southern Kalifornia are well known for there trout fishing.

Top choice is deep creek in the San Bernadino National forest. There is only one trail side campground that you have to hike into, “Fisherman’s Camp” Deep creek has waterfalls, swimming holes, and hot springs. Single barbless artificial lures only and preferably catch and release.

2nd choice, Santa Ana river also in the San Bernadino National forest. There are several campgrounds along it’s banks, my favorite is “South Fork campground” no water falls, a few swimming holes, and close to Jenks lake This is a well stocked river limit 5 trout per day

3rd choice, west and east forks of the San Gabriel river. Several hike in and drive in campgrounds along the rivers. “East fork” is my favorite and it is a short hike in only campsite. A few water falls, a lot of swimming holes, bungee jumping, gold panning, mine exploration.

West fork fishing is catch and release, east fork used to be stocked so it is recommended to catch and release to preserve the fishery until new rules take place. The reason this is my third choice is the number of people attracted to this area. obviously

Good luck!
