Woods And Waters Campground
I’m looking for a campground within reasonable proximity to Chico, CA that has good water and hiking close by.
I’m trying to arrange a group camping trip but I want to go somewhere that none of us have been before. I’m thinking of heading up highway 32 or highway 70 preferably on the water, in a wooded area, and near good hiking. Does anyone know of a good place or even a good website for learning about campgrounds?
I lived in that area for a few years a while back and I found an excellent spot that may be just what you’re looking for. ‘Tis up hwy 32, about 30 miles or so…..this is gonna be kinda vague as far as directions go, sorry…..anyways, there’s a small town up that-a-way, can’t remember the name…….you’ll pass the turn off for it and go about 5 miles, I’m pretty sure about that so keep an eye on the odometer. Just before the turn-off to my spot there’s a big, ol’ curve…..and the road widens to 2 lanes……look to your left as you go and you’ll see a dirt road, there was a sign but it was small and it was well back of the road anyways……..the road is used mostly by logging trucks, at least it was 5 years ago……it’s a lil’ rough but a passenger car can handle it……follow the road down…..approximately 7 miles……and it’ll lead to a smattering of campsites…..4 or 5 last time I checked…..and there will be a beautiful creek right there too. I didn’t stay at the campsites, I followed the trail which goes deeper into the valley for a few miles and camped. Along the way I found 3 or 4 of the most incredible fishing holes too, natural trout even…not planted. To give you an idea how secluded it is I once worked one of those trout holes nekked. Sorry, t.m.i., I know. Anyways, if you’re gonna try and find that spot, good luck. About 4-5 miles past the turn-off you’ll come to an intersection, left takes ya to that lake, which at the moment remains nameless too….almanor?….is that it?. Alrighty, have fun….be careful…..fish on!!
